CHAPTER OF DAR

MOUNT PLEASANT — James Harlan Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution met Saturday morning at the Fellowship Cup in Mount Pleasant.

Sixteen members were able to attend.

Regent Sylvia Blaesing led the business meeting. Jane Neil presented a display case for the flag of Patriot Charles Shepherd, which was made and donated by her father-in-law John Neil. Treasurer Pam Schinstock presented the program “Facts & Folklore of Old Glory.”

Hostesses were Carol Messer, who brought refreshments, and Judy

Rawson, who provided the Easter-themed centerpieces.

Others attending: Registrar Carol Klopfenstein, Chaplain Jo Ann Stout, Helen See, Maria Whetsler, Wilma Lewis-Witham, Margaret Carlson, Mary Savage, Pat White, Martha Allen, Martha Hayes and Secretary Pat Brown.

Active members of James Harlan attend from Muscatine, Danville, Salem, Winfield, Fairfield, Yarmouth, Washington, Rome and Mount Pleasant.

The next meeting will be 10 a.m. April 20 at the Fellowship Cup in Mount Pleasant. Donald Young will be honored with a DAR Community Service Award, and the public is invited to attend. Wilma Lewis-Witham, will present “Iowa’s Female Civil War Major.”

All members of DAR descend from a patriot who fought in the American Revolution. The objectives of DAR are historical preservation and the promotion of education and patriotic endeavors. For information on joining DAR, contact Carol Klopfenstein at 319-257-6987.
