Jefferson County Fair Open Class

Organizers of the 2017 Greater Jefferson County Fair Open Class Division will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Jefferson County ISU Extension office.

Jefferson County 4-H

A Memories & Muffins with Mom is planned from 8:30-10 a.m. Saturday at the Jefferson County ISU Extension office.

All mother and daughter/son duos are welcome to attend. They can create memories while making a craft and enjoying muffins together.

4-H’ers and FFA members participating in the horse project are reminded they must attend at least two practices to be eligible to show at the Greater Jefferson County Fair 4-H & FFA Horse Show.

Practices are being held from 6-8 p.m. every Monday through June 12 at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds.

During the session set for Monday, a Purina equine nutrition class is planned. Other special events during the practices includes: signing up for classes available for the fair competition at the June 5 session; and a health check performed by a veterinarian at the June 12 session.

4-H’ers and FFA members participating in the dog project are reminded classes and practices are continuing from 6-8 p.m. each Wednesday through June 7 at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds. Youth must attend at least two sessions to be eligible to show at the county fair.

All 4-H animals, including dogs and pets, being shown at the county fair this year must be identified on 4-H Online by Monday.

Then, beginning Tuesday, 4-H’ers can start signing up for livestock and static exhibit classes at the county fair online through Fair Entry. The deadline is June 9. There will be a $25 late fee for livestock exhibits. Changes can be made on livestock check-in day for the fair.

Those needing help can visit the Jefferson County ISU Extension office from 4-6 p.m. May 25, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 8 or call 472-4166 for an appointment.

Jefferson County Youth Committee

The Jefferson County Youth Committee is planning its second annual prefair carnival for June 17 at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds.

The planning committee is asking for donations of old trophies to give to children at the carnival. The trophies can be from any type of event – fairs, car shows, sporting events.

To donate trophies or for more information, call youth committee member Vicki Tillis at 472-2116.
