JEFFERSON COUNTY MASTER GARDENERS
Jefferson County Master Gardeners met at 5 p.m. Monday for a progressive food and garden tour beginning at the Maasdam Barns in Fairfield.
First stop was Rebecca Young’s gardens and solarium where appetizers were enjoyed.
Colleen Bell offered herbal teas as the group visited her grounds of flowers, herbs and vegetables.
Next stop was Becky Yaeger’s farm and high tunnel filled with raspberries. A salad was served.
Sandi Dimmitt gave a guided tour of straw bale plantings and garden areas. The main course was eaten deck side.
Final destination and dessert was at Gerri Lyon’s home. Flower gardens and the pumpkin patch were toured.
The members said the tour was very informative, and they a great time with friends.
Jefferson County Master Gardeners have a table set up each Saturday at the Fairfield Farmers’ Market. The gardeners are available to answer any horticulture questions or concerns that the public might have.
Members who are needing volunteer hours can do maintenance at Maasdam Barns. The annuals and perennials are looking great, but weeding is needed.
Discussion was held on upcoming projects. More information will be available in August.
The group will be having another progressive garden tour at four members’ homes for the Aug. 25 meeting. Finals details will be emailed to members.
