John L. Greenfield, 85, of Centerville, Ohio, and formerly of Douds died Wednesday April 10, 2013, after a brief illness.
A funeral was held at 10:30 a.m. today at Schlientz & Moore Funeral Home in Centerville, Ohio. Memorials to American Cancer Society can be mailed to the family at 715 Springridge Place, Centerville, OH 54459.
Mr. Greenfield was born July 17, 1928, in Douds-Leando, the son of Earl and Gelenne Greenfield. He married Dorothy, whom he met in a Chicago train station.
Mr. Greenfield graduated from Douds High School, served in the U.S. Army in Germany, worked at Douds Quarry, as a ranch hand in Montana and installed fences with Great Lakes Fence Co.
The family lived for a time in Tennessee where he was a manufacturing engineer for Gabriel Corp. and many years in Ohio where he was a manufacturing engineer for General Motors Corp., retiring in 1992.
He was a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason and a member of American Legion.
Surivors include his wife; two daughters, Loretta Gaul and Karen Yoder and husband Darrell; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Genevieve Rogel and Donna McClaren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Robert and Donald Greenfield; and one sister, Rosemary Kacsala.
