John W. Reed
John W. Reed, 101, of rural Libertyville died at 5:21 p.m. Friday, July 12, 2013, at Jefferson County Health Center in Fairfield. The body has been cremated according to his wishes. Graveside services and burial of cremains will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Fell Cemetery, southwest of Libertyville, with the Rev. Jerry Caughron officiating, and military rites by John Hyson Reneker Post No. 494, American Legion, Douds. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to Fell Cemetery. Memorials can be brought to the service or mailed to the family at 2599 Douds Road, Libertyville 52567.

Mr. Reed was born Jan. 8, 1912, in Fairfield, the son of Perrin and Grace Davis Reed. He married Ella M. “Smitty” Smith May 18, 1938, in Crown Point, Ind. She died Feb. 2, 2006.
Mr. Reed farmed in Jefferson County and worked at Louden Machinery Co. and Parsons College, both in Fairfield.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in Italy during World War II and was one of the founders of the Iowa National Guard in Fairfield.
He attended Mount Zion Community Church in rural Libertyville and had been a Mason and a Legionnaire.
Survivors include numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, seven sisters and two brothers.
