Jones ties FHS record
Fairfield sophomore Malory Jones tied the all-time school record with a high jump of 5-feet, 4 inches on Thursday in Mt. Vernon on the campus of Cornell College.
Jones took second place out of 30 competitors at the event, called the “Girls Demon Indoor Meet,” which is hosted by Washington High School.
Trojan senior Kaily Kaska posted the fourth highest jump of the day, 5-feet. Senior teammate Shelby Heston had the fifth best jump, 4-10.
Among other highlights for Fairfield, Brynna Bowman took 12th in the 200-meter dash out of 48 competitors and Aluna Olaniyi finished 10th in the 60-meter hurdles.
Out of 42 competitors, Trojan Kara Jeffrey took fifth place in the 400-meter dash and teammate Alexis Jones 17th.
Thirty-five athletes competed in the 1,500-meter run and Trojan Ashley Bloomquist finished second and teammate Maggie Ferrel 13th.
The Trojan relay teams also enjoyed success.
Ferrel anchored Fairfield’s 4x800 team, which took sixth place out of 30 teams. Ferrel was joined by Bloomquist, Ashlyn Elmore and Sam Fritz.
Fritz was anchor on the 4x400 squad, which finished in third place. Fritz was joined by Olaniyi, Jeffrey and Malory Jones.
Elmore anchored the distance medley, which finished 12th of 22 teams. She was joined by Heston, Carin Corrik and Alexis Jones.
