Landfill director in Fort Dodge charged with theft
FORT DODGE (AP) — The former director of the Fort Dodge landfill has been arrested on a felony theft charge.
The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation says Michael Dean Grell, former co-director of the North Central Iowa Regional Solid Waste Agency, was arrested on Tuesday. He is charged with theft by misappropriation.
The DCI says in a statement it is alleged that from early spring through the winter of 2012 Grell used landfill equipment, personnel and other resources to remove topsoil from his private property.
The charge carries a penalty of up to 10 years in prison.
Grell was arrested and booked in to the Webster County Law Enforcement Center.
Online court records show he posted $10,000 bond. A hearing was set for Aug. 1.
Grell did not immediately return a message.
