Leadership Fairfield applications due
The Leadership Fairfield program is now accepting applicants for the 2014-15 session; the deadline is Friday.
This new program, co-sponsored by the Fairfield Area Chamber of Commerce and Indian Hills Community College, is meant to bring together current and future leaders from within the Fairfield community.
According to Fairfield Area Chamber executive director Nancy Morrissey, the goal of the program is really twofold.
“Through Leadership Fairfield participants will have the opportunity to learn about how various groups in the community function, and we hope to inspire them to get more involved in an area that fits with their particular skills and interests,” Morrissey said. “In addition to that, we are providing a framework for people to grow their personal networks which is such an important component of leadership. Both of these things will be a benefit to the participants personally, as well as to their employers and the larger community.”
The curriculum for the program is modeled after the Leadership Iowa program run by the Association of Business and Industry. Each of the seven full-day sessions will focus on a different aspect of life in the Fairfield community, including: quality of life, local government and public safety, communications and finance, health and human services, business/entrepreneurship, education, and agriculture/sustainability.
The cost to attend the program is $250, which includes lunches. It is expected that many individuals will attend as representatives of their various companies, although that is not a requirement.
Everyone is encouraged to apply. Program sponsors are hoping the class will represent a diverse cross section of the community.
The application deadline for the program is Friday. The introductory session will be held the afternoon of Sept. 23, with subsequent sessions taking place on the first Tuesday of the month. The program will run from September through April. Applications can be obtained by stopping by the chamber office or visiting the website at www.fairfieldiowa.com.
Questions about the program should be directed to the chamber office at 472-2111.
