Library showing free film
The Fairfield Public Library will present a free movie Friday, with doors opening at 7 p.m., and the film beginning at 7:30 p.m.
The film being shown is a 2013 American-German war film that is based on a New York Times bestseller novel first released in 2005. Narrated by Death; it tells the story of Liesel Meminger from the time she is taken at age 9 to live with a foster family in a German working-class neighborhood during the Nazi era. Liesel arrives having just stolen her first book, “The Gravediggers Handbook.” It will be the beginning of a love affair with books. Taught to read by her kind-hearted foster father, the girl begins “borrowing” books and sharing them with the Jewish refugee being sheltered by her foster parents in their home.
The film is rated PG-13 and lasts two hours and 10 minutes.
See the library’s calendar on its website at www.fairfield.lib.ia.us for additional details about the free movie.
Organic popcorn and bottled water will be available. The donations for popcorn and water help the library renew its movie licenses. The library’s license does not allow it to announce the title of the free film that will be shown.
