Lisk wins bodybuilding competitionHer first ever competition was a victory
Fairfield resident Summer Lisk has always been passionate about fitness.
For 16 years she has ran marathons and long distance races. Two and a half years ago she became a personal trainer because she wanted to share her passion of exercise with others. It was only recently that she decided to become a bodybuilder.
“I was ready to change my body,” Lisk said. “I set a 90 day goal and then saw the amazing things that weight training did for me.”
Lisk participated in her first natural bodybuilding competition, the NANBF Best of the Midwest, which was held Oct. 12, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She took away four first place trophies in the categories of Beginner Figure Short, Beginner Figure Overall, Novice Figure Short, and Novice Figure Overall. She also won an award that only one person in the entire 70-athlete competition could win: the sportsmanship award.
“I loved the experience,” Lisk said. “I made friends with everybody there and I had so much fun.
Her quest began when her coach and trainer, Frederico Gama, mentioned the competition to her five months ago. Her effort in the gym persuaded him that she had the focus and the drive to be great at competitive bodybuilding.
“So I said ‘why not’,” Lisk said.” I’m a person always willing to try anything and take risks. So I trained with him for five months, trusting the process, changing my eating, my mind set, etc.”
It paid off for Lisk with a victory in her first ever competition. Lisk was nervous early on, but once she got used to being on stage she began having fun.
Lisk will compete in April in Davenport before the national competition in Des Moines in May. Summer is the wife of Shawn Lisk and has three children.
