Little Miss deadline Friday
Organizers are reminding potential 2013 Greater Jefferson County Fair Little Miss contestants and their parents the deadline for applications is Friday at the Jefferson County ISU Extension Office.
The contest is open to girls no older than 8 or younger than 6 as of June 1, 2013, who have lived in Jefferson County for at least one year.
The 2012 Little Miss was Chayse Gilchrist, daughter of Robert and Niki Gilchrist.
The first 12 registrants who turn in completed applications, $15 registration fees and copies of birth certificates will be accepted in the contest. At least five contestants are necessary for the contest to be held. As of Wednesday, three girls had signed up.
The theme for this year’s competition is “Giddy Up Cowgirl.” Girls can dress up for the theme, but no pageant dresses or swimwear are allowed. Girls will be judged on their costumes during the judges’ interview and also will wear them for the on-stage presentation.
Each contestant will have a 10-minute interview with the judges June 26. Parents and chaperones are not allowed into the interview room or the backstage area before or during the contest. Assigned staff will provide any necessary assistance.
Contestants will be on the show arena stage at 6 p.m. June 26 preceding the fair queen contest. Plans are for each girl to answer one question before the presentation of the winners.
The Little Miss and the first runner-up will need to be available to help hand out ribbons at assigned shows during the fair.
The 2013 Greater Jefferson County Fair, with free front gate admission, runs June 26 through July 1. The Little Miss Contest is set for 6 p.m. June 26 on the show arena stage preceding the queen contest and followed by Bill Riley’s Iowa State Fair Talent Search contest.
