Local gymnasts bring home gold
PAPILLION, Neb. — Twelve gymnasts representing the Fairfield Parks and Recreation Center competed April 5-7 in the Spring Fling Gymnastics Meet under the auspices of Amerikids at Omega Gymnastics in Papillion, Neb.
All-around first-place winners in their respective age divisions were Sydney Clark and Justin Simmering. Olivia McClaran was a second-place all-around winner. Michelle Zhang and Madalyn Rauscher both picked up third-place medals in all-around, and medals for fourth-place all-around went to Juliette Pohren, Danae Drish, Bryanna Popejoy, and Maggie Ferrel.
Fifth-place all-around was awarded to Libby Ferrel. Sixth-place all-around awards went to Helen Drish and Ashlyn Worley, and Gracie Simmering rounded out the wins with an eighth-place all-around medal.
Girls travel to Marshalltown
MARSHALLTOWN — The Fairfield Park and Recreation trampoline team continued its winning ways Saturday in Marshalltown at the Leapin’ Lizards Meet sponsored by MAT Trampoline and Tumbling.
Nine local high flyers competed, with three of them bringing home first-place trophies and two others finishing in second place.
Juliette Pohren brought home her third first-place trophy in the sub-advanced category, and Justin Simmering (intermediate) and Bryanna Popejoy (beginner) also placed first in their respective age groups.
Olivia McClaran (novice) and Michelle Zhang (beginner) were awarded second-place trophies. Ella Pollet placed third in the intermediate division, and fourth-place winners were Kiara Bickham, Kristen Burnstedt and Gracie Simmering.
All members of the team have qualified to go on to the USTA state meet next weekend in Pella. Coaches Jeff and Jeanne Ide said they anticipate solid wins at state to qualify a number of Fairfield’s trampolinists to nationals in Fort Lauderdale at the end of June.
