Locals selected to state council
DES MOINES – Iowa Department of Education Director Brad Buck named 19 Iowans who will serve on a state council to study and recommend new statewide systems for evaluating Iowa teachers and school administrators, and the list includes local teachers.
Joel Illian, special education teacher at Pekin Community School District, and Billy Strickler, elementary teacher in the Fairfield Community School District made the list.
The council will meet for the first time Oct. 4. The meeting will be held from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in Room B100 of the Grimes State Office Building in Des Moines. Meetings are open to the public.
The Council on Educator Development was established as part of House File 215, the landmark education reform bill adopted by Iowa lawmakers.
