Maharishi holds Basketball Bash
Maharishi School of the Age of Enlightenment held the Annual Maharishi School Celebrity/Alumni Basketball Bash Friday at the Maharishi Fieldhouse.
MSAE alumni and local personalities took to the court all in an effort to raise money for the MSAE boys senior class trip to Costa Rica. Mayor Ed Malloy and Fairfield Iowa Convention and Visitors Bureau executive director Rustin Lippincott were among the players.
This is the sixth consecutive year MSAE has held the event. Four teams were comprised and more than 24 players participated. The winners of the two first round games played in the championship game. The players on the winning team included Pasha Bousquet, Joseph Gelfand and Don Braithwaite. Each of these players graduated from MSAE in 2010. Bousquet was named tournament Most Valuable Player after scoring 22 points on the night. MSAE junior high basketball coach Justin Heaton and MSAE JV basketball coach Brandon Hyde were also on the winning squad.
“The evening went really well,” said athletic director Rig Gelfand. “This is the first year that the athleticism of the younger players was a challenge to the old guard alumni. And the younger team walked away with the overall win.”
