Many offices close Monday for holiday
Monday is Labor Day, a federal holiday, and many offices will be closed.
Fairfield public schools are closed Monday. Classes for the 2014-15 school year begin Tuesday. All students return to classes Tuesday, with the exception of preschool students. School hours for the first week of school will not be on an early release schedule as in the past years. The normal 10 a.m. late-start Wednesday for teacher inservice also is planned.
Maharishi School of the Age of Enlightenment is closed Monday.
Fairfield City Hall and Jefferson County Courthouse are both closed Monday.
The U.S. Postal Service is closed, and regular mail is not delivered on Labor Day.
Fairfield Public Library is closed Monday. The library will begin its winter hours Sept. 7: 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesday and Wednesdays; 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursdays and Fridays; and 1-5 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.
Fairfield’s Roosevelt Community Recreation Center and the Roosevelt Aquatic Center is open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday.
Waste Management is closed Monday, and garbage pick up is delayed one day all week long.
Senior meal sites are closed Monday, and no meals will be served. The Fairfield Senior Citizen Center has frozen or shelf-stable meals available for evenings, weekends and holidays. For information, call the site manager at 472-4403.
The Fairfield Ledger newspaper office is closed for Labor Day, and no paper will be published Monday.
Other offices and businesses could be closed, and regularly scheduled meetings and activities could be canceled; call ahead to check schedules.
