March for Meals campaign set
Seneca Area Agency on Aging has announced it will be participating in the national 2013 March for Meals campaign.
March for Meals will be recognized at Seneca’s local meal sites, including the Fairfield Senior Citizen Center, according to Susie Martin, the senior center’s coordinator.
“In this tough economy, the food and human contact we provide to seniors in this community is needed more than ever,” said Connie Holland, executive director of Seneca. “We need the community to come out and support our March for Meals events. Our clients are counting on us. We can’t let them down.”
March for Meals is a national campaign held during the month of March, initiated and sponsored by the Meals on Wheels Association of America, to raise awareness of senior hunger and to encourage action on the part of local communities. Senior Nutrition Programs across the United States, such as Seneca, promote March for Meals through public events, partnerships with local businesses, volunteer recruitment and fundraising initiatives.
Martin said the Fairfield senior center will be looking for dignitaries in the community to help on March 20 in assisting home-delivery workers deliver meals to seniors.
