Meet the Trojans showcases winter sports
Fairfield winter sport athletes were introduced to the community Thursday at Meet the Trojans, which took place at Fairfield High School.
The boys’ basketball, girls’ basketball, wrestling, boys’ swimming, cheerleading, dance and bowling teams were all introduced in the gym.
The wrestling team completed a live practice in the high school commons. The Trojan grapplers will begin their season at home Tuesday when they host Centerville, Davis County and Keokuk.
The girls’ basketball team scrimmaged first. Seniors Hanna Greiner and McKenna Ledger led the varsity with six points each. Mackenzie Flattery, Mikaela Lunsford, Mackenzie McClure and Karley Williams all found the bottom of the basket as well.
“I’m looking forward to the Hall-of-Pride Scrimmage on Saturday night,” girls’ basketball coach Mick Flattery said. “A huge thanks goes out to all the parents, community members and our student body for supporting the gals and guys at Meet The Trojans.”
The boys’ team came next. The height that Fairfield possesses was apparent from the beginning, with 6-foot-9-inch Landon Gamrath and 6-foot-6-inch Vince Horras each attempting dunks. Exchange student Federico Ferretti ran the point for Fairfield, dishing the ball to teammates with regularity. Newcomer LaQuan Hill made his presence felt as well. The Trojans begin their season Dec. 2 at home against Oskaloosa.
