‘Messiah - Sing!’ planned Saturday
MOUNT PLEASANT — Southeast Iowa Symphony Orchestra will present its 10th annual “Messiah - Sing!,” an audience sing-along concert experience, at 3 p.m. Saturday in the Iowa Wesleyan College Chapel Auditorium in Mount Pleasant.
Under the direction of guest conductor Bradley Miller, the orchestra, student and professional soloists and the audience/chorus will perform G. F. Handel’s immortal Christmas classic “Messiah.” The concert will consist of the Christmas portion as well as selected parts from the remainder of the work, including the Hallelujah Chorus.
The soloists are: Steven Jepson, Loretta Crosthwaite, Maria Beaukamp and Jordon Poehlman from Iowa City; Tim Ahern from Southeastern Community College faculty in West Burlington; Brenda Randall from Swedesburg; Aaron Warner, an IWC graduate living in Bettendorf; Laura Wiebe, Indian Hills Community College faculty; Jacqueline Lang of Ottumwa; Jessica Gates-Long of Fort Madison; Priscilla Lalaga, an IWC graduate living in Wayland; and Phil Schroetter of Mount Pleasant. Miller is in his third year as director of choral activities at IWC and also serves as director of the Mount Pleasant Chorale.
Concert tickets will be available at the door: $10 for adults and $5 for students. People who wish to sing will be seated in their respective vocal sections. However, groups of friends and families, who wish to sit and sing together, may do so. All participants are asked to bring their own vocal scores. The orchestra will perform the G. Schirmer edition, and scores are available from area music stores, including Eble Music Company in Iowa City. SEISO also will have scores available for sale at the door for $10.
The special event has become a holiday tradition providing a truly memorable experience for music lovers to perform for themselves Handel’s masterpiece with the Southeast Iowa Symphony Orchestra.
