Middle school girls pick up two wins
BURLINGTON — Fairfield’s seventh-grade girls’ basketball team jumped out to a 20-3 halftime lead and cruised to a 39-6 victory over Burlington Aldo Leopold in ‘A’ action Monday.
The ‘A’ team was led by Nicole Buch and Ashtyn Drish, who scored 17 points apiece. Kristen Daugherty and Alie Kensett each put in two points, while Sophie Allen scored one point.
“We started off slow again but played much better in the fourth quarter. We just need that fourth quarter mentality for the first three,” said Fairfield coach Derek Philips. “The girls enjoy winning, but they know what they are capable of doing. We will keeping working to get there.”
Then, in a two-quarter ‘B’ game, the Trojans came out on top with a 13-6 victory. The two teams fought to a 4-all tie at the end of the first period.
Leading the ‘B’ team was Ashley Pool with five points and Abbey Gridley with four. Claire Christensen scored two points, and Lynsey Finney and Kelsey Hollander tacked on one point each.
“We again started slow but came alive in the second quarter. We missed some shots but kept our heads in it to take control in the second quarter,” said Philips.
Fairfield’s next game is at home today vs. Washington.
