Miller selected to attend Merchant Marine Academy
WASHINGTON — Michael Miller of Fairfield has been selected to attend the Merchant Marine Academy.
Miller is the son of Jennifer and Luke Miller and is home schooled.
“Each year, I look forward to nominating outstanding future leaders, like Michael, to attend our nation’s military academies,” said Congressman Dave Loebsack. “His selection is recognition of his hard work and determination. As a military parent with kids who attended the Naval Academy, this selection means a lot to me, as I know it does to Michael and his family. Every Iowan should be proud of his future service to our nation.”
Each year, Loebsack nominates up to 10 Iowans for each academy, with final selection for admission made by the individual academy from that group of 10.
The nation’s service academies offer educational opportunities for young people interested in military service. Students can specialize in a variety of fields at the Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, as well as the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis and the Air Force Academy at Colorado Springs.
