Monday’s events open to public

Mar 22, 2013

MOUNT PLEASANT — Iowa Wesleyan College is hosting several events Monday to recognize Women of Wesleyan Day.

“Education: A Right or a Privilege”, is noon to 12:50 p.m. in the International Room of the Chadwick Library. Participants will be encouraged to rethink how gender influences access to education both in the United States and around the world. This program is free and open to the public; however, free will donations will be accepted to assist a local mother in need. Participants are invited to bring a sack lunch to eat during the program

Students, faculty, staff and the community are invited to participate in a Take-Back-the-Night March at 7:30 p.m. Monday.

Participants will walk from the Scheaffer-Trieschmann Residence Hall on North Broadway Street to Mount Pleasant’s Central Park in a demonstration of resilience and strength. At the park, students will share stories from “Break the Silence, to Cease the Violence”, a student-created compilation of short stories and poems inspired by student-led interviews with victims of domestic violence.

“Break the Silence, to Cease the Violence” will be available for purchase at all Women of Wesleyan Day events. Proceeds will benefit the YWCA Domestic Violence Shelter and Sexual Assault Center in Burlington.
