MSAE to host Basketball BashLocal celebrities and alumni will play in tournament games
The Maharishi School of the Age of Enlightenment is hosting the Annual Maharishi School Celebrity/Alumni Basketball Bash Friday at 7 p.m. in the Maharishi Fieldhouse.
Four teams consisting of alumni players and local celebrities will compete for the Basketball Bash title in the tournament style event. The doors will open at 6:30 p.m. Players can register and food will be available to purchase at that time. The basketball games will start at 7:00 p.m. with teams picked on location from the first 32 players to arrive. Admission is $5 for adults and $4 for students. All proceeds from the event will support the MSAE senior boys’ trip to Costa Rica this spring.
In years past, former MSAE and Fairfield High School players have joined in. Fairfield Mayor Ed Malloy, Fairfield Iowa Convention and Visitors Bureau executive director Rustin Lippincott and city council member Michael Halley will all be participating in the event.
“The Basketball Bash is something I really look forward to each year,” Malloy said. “It helps the MSAE senior class and let’s these young players see that some of us still have game.”
The game is played a little differently since it’s just for fun. Spectators can buy off calls made by the referees. Any foul that is called can be called off for a $10 donation or reversed for a $20 donation. The fouling team gets to shoot free throws if the call is reversed. There also will be halftime guests and entertainment.
