Nov 25, 2016

Fairfield native Chris Nelson, director of music ministries/organist at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Davenport, returns home for a concert on the Barhydt organ at 7:30 p.m. Monday in the Fairfield Arts & Convention Center’s Stephen Sondheim Center for the Performing Arts.

Nelson’s performance is part of the Sondheim Organ Music Spotlight Series.

Before arriving at St. Paul, Nelson served as minister of music at First Presbyterian Church in Fort Wayne, Indiana. In addition to his duties as organist and choir director, he administered an active music series including the National Organ Playing Competition, a competition in existence since 1960 and considered the longest running and widely respected competition for upcoming organists.

Nelson received his Bachelor of Arts in music from Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kansas, and a Master of Sacred Music from Luther Seminary with St. Olaf College.

Nelson is a member of the American Guild of Organists, the Association of Lutheran Church Musicians and has presented workshops on improvisation and service playing for both organizations.

The Sondheim Organ Spotlight Series is a partnership between the Fairfield Arts & Convention Center and the Fairfield Concert Association. Fairfield Concert Association members are admitted with proof of membership. No ticket is required for concert association members.

Tickets to Chris Nelson’s organ concert are $15 for adults and $5 for youth and students and are available at the ticket office, 472-2787 and online, www.FairfieldACC.com. The youth and student tickets are only available at the ticket office.

Season tickets are available for the Sondheim Organ Music Spotlight Series.
