New support group forming
Bryan Range, a therapist with Optimae Lifeservices, a division of Life Solutions Behavioral Health, is starting a new community support group beginning May 14.
Community Support Group is an open support group for anyone who is looking for an opportunity to socialize with others and gain support in a therapeutic group setting. Community Support Group provides participants the opportunity to establish and build lasting relationships, process important life events and receive the support and knowledge they need in order to move forward in their own growth and development.
According to Range, the new support group emphasizes emotional intelligence and cognitive flexibility.
Emotional intelligence is being self-aware, managing disruptive emotions, having empathy and managing relationships.
Cognitive flexibility is being aware of internal thoughts, evaluating them, understanding the consequences they have in life and altering them when necessary.
Being emotionally intelligent in conjunction with cognitive flexibility empowers participants to self-regulate, explained Range. Self-regulating is the ability to tolerate and critically evaluate one’s own thoughts and feelings in a connected and balanced manner. Self-regulation is vital in dealing with any and all life circumstances.
Group therapy is for anyone. Range said it is perfect for those who are looking for something productive to do with their time. He said it is complementary to services already being received, such as individual therapy, substance abuse treatment and other social services.
The group will meet at 4 p.m. on Wednesdays beginning May 14 at Optimae Lifeservices. Coffee will be provided.
To confirm attendance, email name and phone number to Range at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 472-5771.
Walk-in participants also are welcome to attend the weekly meetings.
