New Year’s baby born Sunday
MT. PLEASANT – Nichole Bruegge and Justin Brown’s baby came one day before its due date of Jan. 6.
The Fairfield couple is lucky it did because it meant they would be the parents of the first baby from Jefferson County born in 2014.
Bruegge said she and Brown learned of the due date many months ago. At the time, they were not anticipating having the first baby of 2014. She said it was not even on her mind.
The couple learned the baby’s sex through an ultrasound at 20 weeks gestation. Once they found out it was a girl, they set about trying to decide on a name. The two went back and forth, each offering suggestions to the other. After a few weeks, Brown suggested the name “Aubrey,” and Bruegge liked the sound of it, too.
Aubrey Adeline Brown was born at 10:49 p.m. Sunday in the Henry County Health Center in Mt. Pleasant. She is 19.5 inches long and weighs 8 pounds, 14 ounces.
Aubrey is the couple’s first child. Since the experience was completely new for Bruegge and Brown, there was much to be surprised by. Bruegge said she was most surprised by how large her baby is.
The couple has been in the Henry County Health Center since Sunday and is still there as of this morning, although they are planning to return to their home in Fairfield this afternoon.
While in the hospital, the couple has had a number of guests. Bruegge’s parents, Darrin and Billie Bruegge, visited their new granddaughter. Brown’s aunt and uncle, Stacie and Jonathan Brown, paid the couple a visit as well.
Each year, The Ledger declares a New Year’s baby and gives the parents a letter authorizing them to pick up gifts donated by participating Fairfield businesses.
The New Year’s baby of 2013 was William David Burgmeier, born Jan. 3, 2013, to Michelle and Joe Burgmeier. Their baby was born in the Van Buren County Hospital in Keosauqua. William weighed 8 pounds, 8 ounces and was 20 inches long.
