Open Class Division of the Jefferson County Fair; P.E.O. Chapter MB
OPEN CLASS DIVISION, JEFFERSON COUNTY FAIR
The Open Class Division of the Jefferson County Fair will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Jefferson County ISU Extension Office to continue planning for the 2014 Greater Jefferson County Fair.
Everyone is welcome to attend the meeting.
The 2014 Greater Jefferson County Fair runs June 25-30. Everyone can enter projects in the Open Class Division. Projects can range from arts and crafts; handwork, such as quilts, embroidery, crochet, sewing and other items; food; flowers; fruits and vegetables; agriculture products; and more. For details about divisions and classes, visit the website www.jeffersoncofair.com and click on “Fairbook.”
To enter, projects should be registered from noon to 6 p.m. June 24 and 7-8:30 a.m. June 25 at the Open Class booth in the Activity Building on the fairgrounds. Adults pay $1 per entry; youth through age 15 pay 50 cents per entry.
Judging begins at 9:30 a.m. June 25. Entries are judged on quality of work. An exhibitor is awarded $1.50 for each blue ribbon, $1 for each red ribbon and 50 cents for each white ribbon he or she receives.
The exhibit will not open to the public until 1 p.m. June 25.
The Open Class Division is financially independent of the Jefferson County Fair Board. The Open Class Division is supported by those who exhibit, so its success depends on the exhibitors. Organizers are hoping more exhibitors participate this year.
The Open Class Division also sponsors several contests open to everyone, such as kids’ cupcake decorating, duct tape, a scavenger hunt, frozen T-shirt, big bubble blowing, rubber-chicken throwing and watermelon seed spitting.
