Open Class tremendous success
To the editor:
Thanks for the fun at Open Class at the Fair!
Town and country people enjoyed the fun contests ranging from the rubber chicken-throwing contest to the frozen t-shirt contest. Many, many coupons for tasty treats from local merchants and goodies were given.
We want to let you know the participants of each event. Each event was divided into age levels to encourage the fun. Decorate and eat cup cake fun had 48 winners. The winners, from little ones through high school kids, decorated and devoured cupcakes!
Twenty-eight people participated in the watermelon seed-spitting contest. Thirty-seven people participated in the rubber chicken-throwing contest. Thirty people took part in the bubble gum blowing contest. Twenty people participated in the duct tape challenge.
Thirty people participated in the frozen T-shirt contest. Funny cakes and coupons were given to the contestants. Many people came to Open Class of all ages to enter things in arts, flowers, photography, recycled projects, crafts, home-cooked foods, quilts, sewing, wood projects and glass or metal projects.
They were beautiful and inspired many to think of things to enter next year.
This year’s auctioned quilt, made from last year’s quilt block challenge blocks, sold well. The money funds next year’s Open Class and a donation to help 4-H town and country kids who are invited to be in 4-H.

We thank the Greater Jefferson County Fair Board and the 2013 fair queens and queen contestants for their great help during our contests and Open Class Show. Thank you to The Fairfield Ledger for your excellent coverage of the Open Class fun events!
