Organ music spotlight series ends Sunday
The Sondheim Organ Music Spotlight Series concludes with a concert from Wyatt Smith, a native of Rapid City, South Dakota, and a graduate student at the Yale Institute of Sacred Music at 7:30 p.m. Sunday.
Smith will perform a program of music by Bach, Franck, Vierne and others on the John and Coralee Dey Barhydt Organ in the Fairfield Arts & Convention Center’s Stephen Sondheim Center for the Performing Arts. The program will include J. S. Bach: Toccata in F, BWV 540; Frescobaldi: Bergamasca; Kurt Knecht: Missouri Sonata; Jehan Alain: Postlude pour l’office des complies; Alain: Litanies; Felix Mendelssohn: Overture to Paulus; Frederick Frahm: Three New Mexico Sketches; and Max Reger: Choralefantasia über Wie schön luecht’ der Morgenstern.
Smith was the winner of the 2011 AGO/Quimby Regional Competition for Young Organists and was among the winners of the 2011 USD Concerto Competition. His performances have been heard on several episodes of American Public Media’s “Pipedreams.”
