Ottumwa roundabout will have detour starting Oct. 14
Installation of a storm sewer pipe below Highway U.S. 34 in Ottumwa requires the closure of the roadway between the Vine Street interchange and U.S. 34/U.S. 63 roundabout at 5 a.m. Oct. 14, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s District 5 Office.
During this project, traffic will be directed around the construction zone using Vine Street, Madison Avenue and Mary Street. There is a 12-foot width lane restriction on the detour route. A temporary four-way stop at the intersection of Vine Street and Madison Avenue will be in place.
Motorists should be cautious of pedestrian traffic crossing the detour route to access their vehicles in parking lots. During shift changes, John Deere is expected to add temporary stop signs at the cross walks located in the detour route.
This project is expected to be completed by mid-November.
IDOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones.
As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles and wear seat belts.
