Panthers take down Fairfield bowling teams

Jan 29, 2013

MOUNT PLEASANT — Consistency, or lack thereof, reared its head Saturday as both the Fairfield bowling teams dropped a pair of Southeast Conference duals to Mount Pleasant at Iris Bowling Center.

Fairfield’s boys fell to the host Panthers 2973-2615, and the girls lost 2494-2217 in the teams’ second-to-last meet before the SEC tournament Feb. 9.

The loss was just the third of the season for the Trojan boys, who fell to 5-3 overall. The Fairfield girls are currently 4-4 on the season.

Five of the six Trojan boys had at least one game well above their averages in round one, but many of the bowlers still finished below their series averages with sub-par adjacent games.

Senior Gabe Hull led the Trojans in round one with a high game of 235, which was 60 pins above his average, as well as a high series of 419.

Fairfield’s lead-off bowler Mitch Goudy had Fairfield’s second highest series at 359, and Ben Hull was two pins behind with a 357 series. Jacob Adam and Cody Craff, who bowled a 204 game, also scored for Fairfield with a pair of 318 series.

Fairfield trailed the Mount Pleasant boys 2036-1771 after round one, and the deficit only grew in the baker games with Mount Pleasant rolling to a 937-844 advantage.

In the girls’ competition, the host Panthers out-scored Fairfield 1690-1468 in the first round, then held on for the win with an 804 score in the baker games.

Alyssa Chatfield led the charge for Fairfield, rolling games of 181 and 157 for a 338 series. Megan Harris finished round one with a 320, which was 58 pins above her average, and Madelyn Swan bowled a 304 series.

Kristen Terrell was 56 pins above her average and scored with a 294 series, and sophomore Tracy Andermann rounded out the team score with a 212.

“Our girls did well most of the day. Unfortunately, Mount Pleasant did better,” said Fairfield head coach Lisa Greenig. “Amber Manning was asked to step into a varsity opening to fill the team today. She handled the pressure well.”

In JV action, Fairfield’s boys came away with the only win of the day for the away squad.

Brady Hammes posted a high series of 381, which included games of 207 and 174. Chet Vogt and Kenneth Boughner also scored above practice averages both games.

Fairfield boys also filled in a third lineup in lieu of a Fairfield JV girls team. Wyatt Stark (290), Jacob Dunn (285) and Austin Blomme (281) had the top series scores for Fairfield.

Both Trojan teams return to action Saturday with another Southeast Conference meet, this time at Washington.
