Panthers take first in Falcon Relays
The Pekin Panthers girls’ track and field squad took first place overall in the 13-team Falcon Relays in West Burlington on Tuesday.
The Panthers competed in the “Class B” category, made up of smaller schools.
But plenty of their times and distances equaled, and sometimes bettered, teams competing in the larger school “Class A.”
Panther Kaylee Linder won the “Class B” 100-meter dash with a time of 13.05 — and that time bettered all competitors in “Class A” as well.
Among other highlights for Pekin, Emily Linder took the silver medal in the 400 and Cari Duwa took bronze. Remi Duwa took first in the 800 and Mackenzie Martin finished second.
Shea Dahlstrom took the bronze in the 1,500. Hollie Loper took silver in the 3,000 and Ayren Essary finished in third place.
Kaylee Linder, Emilee Linder, Cate Roth and Julianna Baumgartner took gold in the 4x100 relay.
Anchored by Ellie Ledger, Pekin took silver in the 4x200.
Cari Duwa, Remi Duwa, Hunter Lock and Martin took silver in the 4x400.
Kaylee Linder, Roth, Zoey Wright and Emilee Linder took second in the 800 sprint medley.
Remi Duwa, Dahlstrom, Cari Duwa and Martin took gold in the 4x800 with a record-setting meet time of 10:26.09.
Kalee Haile, Kira Smith, Chelsea Lanphier and Kaylee Ancell took first in the 4x100 shuttle hurdle.
Katie Jones took gold in the shot put and silver in the discus. Willoh Mills took silver in both the shot and discus.
