Pekin boys continue win streak, girls fall to Mediapolis
The Pekin boys’ basketball team continued its strong season by beating Mediapolis 65-30 Tuesday and pushing its winning streak to 13 games.
Pekin (13-1) held Mediapolis scoreless in the first quarter. Brody Long scored 24 points and brought down 11 rebounds.
“I challenged them to give up no paint finishes with swarming defense,” said Pekin coach Ken Hutchinson.
Cade Millikin scored 14 points and got five assists. Jared Bond scored seven points and corralled 10 rebounds. The Panthers play IMS Friday night.
The Pekin girls’ lost to Mediapolis 92-71. The Panthers (11-4) could not outscore the Bulldogs, who are now 15-1 on the season.
Andrea Larson led Mediapolis with 33 points and shot 15-20 from the field. Heidi Hillyard scored 16 points and secured 12 rebounds.
Beth Atwood scored 23 points to lead the Panthers. Gwynne Wright and Samantha Wright both scored 14 points. Cassidy Tolle and Madelyn Baker each chipped in four points.
Pekin hosts IMS Friday night.
