The wins just keep coming.

The Pekin boys’ basketball team is now 12-1 after defeating Louisa-Muscatine 53-35 Friday night in Packwood. The Panthers pounced on their opponent quickly, pushing their lead to 15 by the end of the first quarter. Pekin was able to coast the rest of the game and earn the win.

“We lost some intensity during the second and third quarters, but that will give us something to work on this week during practice,” Pekin coach Ken Hutchinson said.

Brody Long scored 16 points and grabbed five rebounds to lead the Panthers. Cade Millikin put in nine points and got seven assists. Keaton Winn came off the bench to score eight points.

The Pekin girls’ won easily Friday over the Falcons with a 70-39 victory. The Panthers were down after the first quarter, but their domination of the rest of the game began with a 24 point second quarter.

Beth Atwood had a huge game for the Panthers, tallying 25 points, 17 rebounds and five assists. Samantha Wright scored 11 points and Madelyn Baker put down 10 points. Sloan Reighard chipped in eight points.

Both Pekin squads play tonight at Mediapolis. The Mediapolis girls are currently ranked No. 4 in Class 3A. The real test for the Pekin boys will come Friday when they host IMS. That matchup could decide who wins the SEISC-North title.
