Pekin defeated by Keota 69-65
KEOTA – The Pekin Panthers season ended on Feb. 16 with a 69-65 loss to the Keota Eagles.
“The loss is a little frustrating,” said Panthers head coach Ken Hutchinson. “I thought we were better prepared than we were. I really thought that everything we went through, the guys were pretty confident in their roles both offensively and defensively. We had some guys that weren’t ready for the moment.
“I told the guys in the locker room that has to be as much on me as on them. Somehow, I thought I had them ready, but I didn’t. Going forward, I have to do a better job of getting the guys mentally prepared.
“I thought we were deeper than Keota and could shoot as well as them and our half-court defense could be as good or better then them. They (Keota) just showed up and played and we didn’t.
“I didn’t think we attacked the basket as well, either. Kudos to Keota, they picked up their perimeter defense and that forced us off the line for quite awhile.”
Pekin finished the season 11-10.
“We had more guys put in a summer this year than we have in a long time,” Hutchinson said. “I think that showed with our ability to shoot. We haven’t been able to shoot the 3 like this since I’ve ever been at Pekin. That is our biggest bright spot.”
