Pekin girls edge IMS; boys fall
PACKWOOD — The Pekin girls’ basketball team bounced back from its first loss in December with another win, a 41-40 nail-biter vs. IMS on Tuesday.
Leslie Stone scored a team-high 10 points for the Panthers, who rallied back from a 22-19 halftime deficit. Pekin scored 13 points in the third quarter to take a 30-29 lead, then held on for the win with a nine-point fourth period.
Also for Pekin, Beth Atwood scored nine points to go along with seven rebounds, Sam Wright scored eight and Jessica Horras totaled six points and eight rebounds. Gwynne Wright and Madelyn Baker supplied four points each.
With the win, the Panthers are now 5-3 overall and 5-3 in the Southeast Iowa Super Conference North. They have won four of their past five games.
Next up for the Panthers is a road trip to Eldon Thursday to play Cardinal (2-5).
Pekin boys fall 80-68
PACKWOOD — Graham Wittrock continued his hot shooting with 24 points Tuesday, but it wasn’t enough as Pekin fell to rival IMS 80-68.
Pekin junior Cade Millikin added 12 points, seven assists and two steals, and Brody Long also hit double-figures with 12 points and seven boards. Jared Bond added eight points and six rebounds down low, and Petie Clubb totaled seven points and four assists.
The 3-3 Panthers play at Cardinal (3-2) Thursday.
