Pekin girls fall 43-23
PACKWOOD — The young Pekin girls’ basketball team struggled to find its groove in a 43-23 loss to Winfield-Mount Union Tuesday in Packwood.
The Panthers, who were led by freshman Gwynne Wright’s 12 points, started slow out of the gates and quickly found themselves in an 8-0 hole.
Pekin scored its first bucket of the night with two minutes to go in the first quarter and trailed 11-4 headed into the second period. Winfield led 18-11 at the intermission and went up by double-digits in the third, where the Panthers only scored one point.
Pekin’s Beth Atwood tacked on six points and 10 boards, Madelyn Baker pulled down seven rebounds, and McKenna Gambell nabbed two steals.
Pekin (5-6), which has lost its last three games, looks to turn its fortunes around with an SEISC North game at WACO Friday.
