Pekin homecoming starts Sunday
PACKWOOD — Pekin High School starts homecoming celebrations Sunday with hallway decorating, warrior volleyball, powder puff football, a kickoff rally and homecoming king and queen coronation.
The overall theme for homecoming is super heroes; each class is decorating its hallway paying homage to different super heroes. Freshmen will have an X-men theme; sophomores will be the Avengers; juniors will recreate a space for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles; and seniors are aiming for the Justice League. Hallway decorating is 1-3 p.m. Sunday.
A game of warrior volleyball — boys versus boys — is 3-4 p.m. Sunday, followed by the powder puff football game played by girls, from 4-5 p.m.
Shortly after 5 p.m. Sunday the homecoming kickoff begins, with a speaker, introductions of all fall sports teams and an auction of a team volleyball and football, and an item from the cross country team.
Homecoming court will be introduced and the king and queen crowned, culminating Sunday’s events.
Seniors serving on the 2013 Pekin High School homecoming court include, queen candidates: Peyton Atwood, Jessica Horras, Jenna Swanson, Hannah Robison, Tiana Soaney and Taiylor Morgan. King candidates are: Petie Clubb, Eric Adam, Jared Bond, Cade Millikin, Brody Long and Michael Mosbey.
The high school has dress-up days throughout the week. Monday is super hero day; Tuesday is “Duck Dynasty” day; Wednesday is zombie day; Thursday is character/celebrity day; and Friday is spirit day.
A pep rally is planned for 2:30-3:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4, and the Pekin Panthers will host English Valley in football that evening.
