PACKWOOD — Pekin High School Student Council members will host a Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center blood drive from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Oct. 31 in the high school gym.
To donate, call Pekin High School business and computer teacher Tim Magill at the high school, 319-695-3705.
Donors who last gave blood on or before Sept. 5 are eligible to donate again.
According to the blood center, blood donation is a safe and simple procedure that takes about an hour. Donors must be at least 16 years old, be in good health and weigh at least 110 pounds. A blood donor card or other photo identification is required to donate. Sixteen-year-old donors must present a signed parental consent form each time they donate until reaching 17 years of age. Consent forms are available at www.bloodcenter.org.
Blood drive results listed
The Mississippi Regional Blood Center mobile unit recently drew 158 pints of blood at six blood drives.
The mobile unit crew collected 27 pints of blood Oct. 15 at Prairie View United Methodist Church near Ollie.
Also on Oct. 15, the crew collected 25 pints of blood at First United Methodist Church.
The mobile crew collected 42 pints of blood Oct. 16 at Cambridge Investment Research Inc.
Also on Oct. 16, the crew drew 19 pints of blood at the Batavia Senior Citizen/Community Center and 20 pints at a drive sponsored by the Lockridge Fire and Rescue Unit at the Lockridge Senior Center.
The mobile crew collected 25 pints of blood Oct. 17 at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds Activity Building.
According to the blood center, one pint of blood can help save the lives of up to three patients, and one out of every five people entering the hospital will need blood products.
