Pekin students win awards at State Science & Technology Fair
PACKWOOD – Several Pekin Middle School students placed in and won awards at the Iowa State Science & Technology Fair March 31 in Ames.
Eighth-grader Kaitlyn Glosser’s “How Do You Learn?” earned a Scientific Excellence Presented by Keokuk certificate.
The eighth-grade team of Brady Millikin and Brady Latcham and their “Go Go Fertilizer” project earned both a second-place Plant Science award and a Broadcom Master certificate and application.
The eighth-grade team of Ethan Cernic and Gage Farrier, with the project “Destruction of Homemade Shotshells,” earned an Engineering, Physics and Math honorable mention.
The eighth-grade team of Maddie Bemis and Anne Meier, with their project,“The Cold Truth” earned a Engineering, Physics and Math third place.
Seventh-grade student Maddie Black’s “Wanted: Thawed & Alive” earned an Iowa Angus Auxiliary certificate and $20, a Schneider Seed & Cattle Corp. Ag Excellence Award certificate and $25 and a Scientific Excellence Presented by Keokuk certificate.
Seventh-grader Alex Dix’s “Which Growing Medium Grows Seeds the Fastest?” earned a Plant Science honorable mention.
Seventh-grader Taylor Sylvester’s “Garbage Plants” earned a Plant Science honorable mention.
