Pekin takes two from Fairfield in JV softball action
PACKWOOD — Pekin took a pair of games from the Fairfield JV Orange softball team Thursday in Packwood. The Panthers beat Fairfield 8-3 in the first game and held off the Trojans for an 11-8 win in game two.
In game one, Pekin led 3-1 after the first inning. Fairfield knotted the game up at 3-all prior to Pekin scoring its five final runs in the fourth.
Delaney Neil took the loss for Fairfield, pitching four innings and allowing all eight runs. She issued one walk, gave up 12 hits and fanned one Panther. Sara Trent pitched one inning of relief, allowing no hits and no walks.
Fairfield’s Sarah Swanson tallied two singles, one RBI and two steals; Baylee Bowman had a double and one run batted in; and Trent doubled. Neil singled, Caytlyn Nystrom supplied one RBI and Kylee Marlay scored once.
In game two, Pekin caught fire to score five runs in each of the first two frames and led 10-2 after the second inning. The Trojans scored six runs in their final three frames to come up just shy of the comeback.
Trent was hit with five runs on two hits and three walks in one inning of work for Fairfield. Shelby Heston pitched the final three innings and allowed six runs on two hits and four walks. Heston struck out five Panthers.
Offensively, Aspen Bowman paced the Trojans with a double, single and two runs scored. Paris Bickham doubled and Taylor Marlay collected a single, stolen base and two runs. Kylee Marlay and RaeAnn McClaran knocked in one run apiece, Olivia Hammel drew two walks, and Ashlyn Elmore scored twice running for Bickham. Amber Samuelson and Nystrom scored, and Jami Nelson finished with a single.
Both games Thursday had a maximum run rule of five runs per inning, and neither game was permitted to go over the 1-hour, 20-minute mark.
Next up for Fairfield softball is a home contest between JV Orange and Washington on Monday. Start time has been set for 12:30 p.m.
