Police arrest man after killing of bicyclist
BURLINGTON (AP) — Burlington police have arrested a man in connection with the shooting death of a bicyclist who was riding through a residential area.
The Hawk Eye reports 50-year-old Eddie Cooper Martin died Wednesday evening at an Iowa City hospital after being shot multiple times earlier in the day as he biked through a neighborhood.
Late Wednesday, police charged 38-year-old Joshua James Royer, of Burlington, with first-degree murder.
Investigators say it doesn't appear Martin and Royer knew each other. Police declined to discuss a motive for the killing. Martin was initially taken to a Burlington hospital before being flown to Iowa City, where he died. Online court records don't indicate whether Royer has an attorney.
