Police conduct alcohol checks
The Fairfield Police Department, in conjunction with Southern Iowa Economic Development Association and the Indian Hills Community College criminal justice program, performed an alcohol compliance check of several businesses holding alcohol retail licenses Saturday in Jefferson County.
Of the 20 businesses visited, six retailers provided alcohol to the underage person used for the compliance check. Those retailers were: Cedar Valley Winery, Fairfield Hy-Vee Food and Drug Store, Shokai, AmericInn, Café Paradiso and Aranda’s.
According to a press release from the Jefferson County Attorney’s Office, “The result of this round of compliance checks shows a 70 percent success rate for the businesses checked. This is a significant increase over the last compliance check that was done.”
