Fairfield Police Department’s dispatch log for Tuesday included:

7:36 a.m. Thomas Drish, 30, parked his vehicle in front of a store and went inside; his vehicle backed up into the northwest gas pump. Damage estimates are at least $1,500.

10:36 a.m. two vehicles were traveling east on Jefferson Avenue. The first vehicle attempted to stop and slid sideways due to icy road conditions. The second vehicle also attempted to stop and also slid, and the two vehicles sideswiped one another. Office responded and could not determine fault and reported difficulty in keeping the patrol car from sliding after parking behind the accident scene. City crews were called and put down salt and sand.

11:37 a.m. caller reported a man living in a camper, probably about three months, using a space heater. Police contacted man and landlord, advised living in a camper is against a city ordinance.

12:28 p.m. Danielle Poling was cited for unlawful passing of a school bus.

1:09 p.m. resident reported a coyote in his backyard killing cats. Caller wanted permission to shoot coyote. Shooting is not permitted in city limits, dispatch provided phone number to contact state and DNR authorities.

4:05 p.m. Woman reported picking up a male hitchhiker wearing only a blanket and talking to himself; she was driving around town to find a ministerial alliance place but churches advised her to take him to the courthouse. She left him at courthouse. Recorder’s office in courthouse called, saying he was there asking for a night’s stay. Police were called away on another call and county sheriff deputies responded. Subject had no identification so was not eligible for ministerial alliance. He walked toward Ottumwa.

8:24 p.m. officer observed Robert Langston, 25, pulling out of Logli’s in a Jeep and later arrested him on warrants and served him with revocation on operating while intoxicated and cited for no Iowa driver’s license and no proof of insurance.

9:50 p.m. Brett Hahn, 20, with license from Henderson County, Ill., was stopped for license plate light out, report came back suspended with four withdraws in effect. He was arrested for driving while suspended.
