Poverty simulation to be rescheduled
The poverty simulation scheduled for Friday morning at the Fairfield Arts & Convention Center has been postponed.
“We decided late today [Wednesday] that we needed to postpone the poverty simulation,” said organizer Susie Drish. “With [Fairfield Community School District on] spring break, it wasn’t a good time, so we’re thinking after Mother’s Day. Whenever more people will be able to attend would be better. We would like to do it before June.”
The purpose of the poverty simulation is to create an atmosphere in which participants will come to a deeper awareness of the many facets of the life of a low-income person, and recognize their own prejudices, biases, and assumptions related to the word “poverty.” It is people’s reaction to the word that shapes what role, if any, they play within the reality of poverty, said the organizers..
