Iowa high school football schedules for the next two seasons have been released by the IAHSSA.

The Fairfield Trojans have three new opponents as a result of Iowa’s new district assignments. The first is Knoxville in week three. The Panthers are not in Fairfield’s district and went 0-9 last season. Fairfield will face new district opponents Davenport Assumption and Clear Creek-Amana to close the regular season. Both of these schools made the playoffs last season. Assumption did so in Class 4A.

Football teams are assigned to new districts and classes every two seasons to ensure that each team is playing the appropriate level of competition based on school size. The Trojans will still play in Class 3A and are now in district five. If the Trojans were to make the playoffs, they would be paired with Class 3A District 6 teams. The teams in district six are Ballard, Benton Community, Grinnell, Bondurant-Farrar, Gilbert, Nevada and Newton.

Pekin, Van Buren and Cardinal are now together in Class A District 6. Each of these teams will play two non-district games before playing their district schedule. Van Buren may have the toughest schedule because it will open its season against five straight teams that made the playoffs in 2013. This includes the Pekin Panthers, who won two postseason contests and were a single win short of a trip to the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls.

Pekin will host Cardinal but travel to Van Buren in 2014. Van Buren will travel to Cardinal Oct. 24 to close the regular season.

If these teams were to make the playoffs they would get paired against Class A District 5 teams. District five consists of East Buchanan, Easton Valley, Edgewood-Colesburg, Lisbon, Maquoketa Valley, North Linn, Postville and Starmont.
