Quiet zone greenlit
Following a 21-day waiting period under Federal Railroad Administration review, Fairfield will be officially announced a quiet zone. Fairfield city councilman Michael Halley is preparing to send a Notice of Establishment Monday to the FRA and expects a response Nov. 20. Halley met with Jim Gibson from the Iowa Department of Transportation and railroad crossing construction workers Wednesday for a review of the completed project. Halley said he invited representatives of the Iowa D.O.T., railroad administration and the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway Company to add credibility to Fairfield’s application. “They all confirmed that Fairfield’s quiet zone meets the standards set out in our FRA application,” said Halley.
