Quilt block entries due for festival
DONNELLSON — Sept. 1 is the deadline for submitting an entry for the Donnellson Fall Festival quilt block contest.
The contest has been a part of the citywide celebration for many years, and quilters of any age and skill can submit a quilt block for judging and inclusion in the quilt that will be sold during the 2014 Fall Festival. Tickets for this year’s quilt, made from the 2012 blocks and handquilted, will be sold during the festival. The Fall Festival is held during the third weekend of September.
Submissions must be a 12.5 inches block. The block should be made of any cotton or cotton-blend fabric, with no raised embellishments as they make quilting difficult.
Entry is free. Individuals can submit more than one block. Each block should include a note with name, address and, if under 21, age. The initials of the block designer should be embroidered or written in permanent fabric marker pen in the lower right-hand corner of the entry, at least 1 inch from the edges.
The entries are placed in categories based on age, and are judged by an individual not associated with the committee.
Quilt blocks can be submitted to Dee Beck, 205 Park St., Donnellson 52625.
