Jefferson County Fair Open Division president Joyce Stanley, left, and Kathy Peck display the quilt made from the 2012 Open Class block challenge entries. The quilt will be auctioned the opening night of the 2013 Greater Jefferson County Fair between the Little Miss Contest at 6 p.m. and the queen contest at 6:30 p.m. June 26 on the show arena stage. The proceeds benefit the Jefferson County Fair Open Class Division, which is independent of the Jefferson County Fair Board. The quilt is on display at Yummy’s Gourmet Cakes beginning today, but also has been displayed at Finishing Touch, Jefferson County Health Care Center, Kim’s Kottage and Libertyville Savings Bank. Quilt block challenge entries are displayed in the Activity Building each fair, and fair-goers can vote on their favorite. After the fair, the blocks are made into a quilt to be auctioned at the next year’s fair. The auction has brought in record amounts for several years: $425 in 2009; $500 in 2010, $525 in 2011; and $550 in 2012.
