Rained-out Douds Field Day rescheduled for Saturday
DOUDS — Douds Field Day events rained out in June have been rescheduled for Saturday.
The afternoon will be filled with old-fashioned kids’ games beginning at 1 p.m., and Squeal Good BBQ will be serving meals from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and again from 5-7 p.m. or later.
The fun horse show will start at 1 p.m. in the arena. Participation is free. Prizes will be awarded for class winners. Contact Alex and Stacy Richards at 641-936-4424 for details.
Closing out the day will be a concert from 7-11 p.m. by the band Common Bond playing its mix of country standards, southern rock, good-old rock ’n’ roll and its own originals.
Members of the band are from southeast Iowa and western Illinois. The band was recommended by committee members who enjoyed its music at The Bridge View Center. Thanks to the generosity of several sponsors, only a freewill offering will be requested for the evening.
Those attending should bring lawn chairs.
Douds Field Day is organized by the Douds Community Club as a fundraiser for community betterment projects. Special needs this year are matching funds for grants to make improvements at Yates Memorial Park and to replace the roof at the community center. Officers are David King, president; Jan Poling, vice president; Jim Pedrick, treasurer; and Lisa Plowman, secretary. Directors are Sandra Coffman, Doug Dick, Kenny Gilchrist, Amanda Philips and Alex Richards.
