Reception to feature Iowa watercolorist Sorensen
MOUNT PLEASANT — A reception for artist Sara Bacino Peiffer Sorensen of Cedar Rapids will be from 4-6 p.m. Thursday at Iowa Wesleyan College.
Her work will be on display in the Iowa Wesleyan College Art Gallery through the month of June.
Sorensen, who earned an education degree from Iowa Wesleyan, taught third grade for five years in the Cedar Rapids community schools. She then taught preschool art for the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art.
Sorensen’s art career began with ceramics, and she worked her way through oil painting and then to her preferred medium, watercolors. She has been a watercolor artist for almost 20 years.
She is a signature member of the Iowa Watercolor Society. She has received a number of honors for her artwork. Her work has been commissioned by the Cedar Rapids Symphony Hilton Coliseum at Iowa State University. She has exhibited at a number of art galleries, hospitals and businesses. Her last show at Iowa Wesleyan was in 2004.
The Iowa Wesleyan College Art Gallery is in the P.E.O. Administration Building. The gallery is open to the public free of charge 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday. The gallery closes at noon on Fridays until Aug. 9.
